About Wolverine Human Services

Wolverine Human Services is a Michigan-based organization serving youth, families, and communities through residential care, foster care, adoption, behavioral health, and community-based services.

We do serious workβ€”but we don’t want boring social media.

We’re looking for a creative, culturally aware content creator who can help us build a fun, bold, cheeky, and recognizable social media presence across TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook, and beyond.

Position Overview

The Summer Social Media Content Creator Intern will plan, create, edit, and publish short-form content throughout the summer. You’ll collaborate with our communications team to produce engaging videos, recurring content series, and trend-based posts that feel fresh, real, and memorableβ€”while still respecting the importance of our work.

This role focuses on helping Wolverine become more visible, relatable, and engaging online.

Key Responsibilities

🎬 Content Creation & Execution

  • Create short-form videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook, and other platforms
  • Film and capture behind-the-scenes content at programs, offices, and events
  • Write captions, hooks, on-screen text, and hashtags
  • Develop recurring content series that can continue beyond the internship

πŸ’‘ Strategy & Creativity

  • Help shape a fun, recognizable social media voice
  • Identify and adapt trends appropriately for a human services audience
  • Generate new content ideas based on performance and engagement
  • Contribute to recruitment, awareness, and storytelling campaigns

🀝 Collaboration & Engagement

  • Interview staff, leadership, and program teams
  • Work with communications and program staff to gather content ideas
  • Help maintain a weekly content calendar
  • Support daily or near-daily posting

πŸ“Š Performance Tracking

  • Track basic metrics (views, likes, shares, comments, follower growth)
  • Recommend improvements based on performance

πŸ”’ Professional & Ethical Standards

  • Follow all confidentiality, privacy, and youth protection policies
  • Use trauma-informed, respectful messaging in all content
  • Maintain professional boundaries in all communications

Content You’ll Help Create

  • Day-in-the-life videos
  • Staff spotlights
  • Behind-the-scenes content
  • β€œWhat people get wrong about…” videos
  • Recruitment and career content
  • Educational content about foster care, residential care, and youth services
  • Trend-based TikToks/Reels
  • Mission-driven storytelling
  • Recurring video series

What We’re Looking For

We want someone who is creative, organized, and comfortable turning ideas into content quickly.

Ideal candidates:

  • Are a current college student or recent graduate
  • Understand TikTok, Reels, and internet culture
  • Have a strong sense of humor (without being inappropriate)
  • Can create content that feels naturalβ€”not overly corporate
  • Are comfortable filming, editing, and being on camera (when needed)
  • Can work independently and bring new ideas forward
  • Are interested in marketing, communications, nonprofit work, or human services
  • Respect confidentiality and sensitive topics
  • Are open to feedback and quick revisions

Qualifications

Preferred Skills

  • Experience creating TikToks, Reels, or short-form video
  • Familiarity with tools like CapCut, Canva, Adobe Express, Premiere, etc.
  • Basic video editing and photography skills
  • Strong writing and storytelling ability
  • Awareness of social media trends
  • Comfort interviewing people on camera
  • Basic understanding of analytics

Content Guidelines (Important)

While we encourage humor and creativity, content must always be respectful.

Content must NEVER make fun of or exploit:

  • Youth or families
  • Trauma or poverty
  • Foster care or juvenile justice involvement
  • Mental health challenges
  • Confidential situations

Humor should focus on:

  • Staff experiences

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience in social media strategy and content creation
  • Real-world nonprofit marketing experience
  • A portfolio of published, professional content
  • Experience developing brand voice and storytelling
  • Exposure to mission-driven communications and recruitment marketing

Schedule

Flexible summer schedule (part-time or full-time).
Some in-person availability required for filming at Wolverine locations, programs, or events.
