SEO & GEO Manager

Purpose
AI Overviews, zero-click results and generative answer engines have rewritten how people find anything over the last two years. The agencies ahead of that shift are the ones calling it before it lands, and this sentiment will be a fundamental part of this role. The SEO & GEO Manager owns organic and AI search strategy across a portfolio of client accounts: technical, content, authority-building and generative engine optimisation, but the brief runs wider than organic alone. This is a strategic role, reading where a client’s goals sit against the rest of the AIP offer, especially digital media, and building plans where paid and organic pull in the same direction instead of competing for the same budget conversation. This role reports to the Executive Director of Search and partners closely with them on account growth and new business, while working day to day with Content, PR, Social and Digital Media to build SEO & GEO into the wider strategy from the start, not bolt it on once the channel plan is set. Clients will look to this role to tell them what’s coming next in search, and to show them exactly what to do about it.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run SEO & GEO strategies across technical, content, authority-building and generative search optimisation, using AI as the starting point for keyword research, auditing and analysis.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of client accounts, managing expectations and delivering results.
  • Read each client’s goals against the wider AIP offer, particularly digital media, and build strategies where organic and paid work as one plan rather than two separate conversations.
  • Spot shifts in Search before they go mainstream, from AI Overviews and generative answer engines to new ranking signals and emerging platforms, and turn them into a clear point of view clients can act on straight away.
  • Work with Content, PR, Social and Digital Media to build SEO & GEO into the wider campaign from brief stage, not after the channel plan is already set.
  • Carry out keyword research, site audits, competitor analysis and performance reporting, using AI to handle the data work and freeing up time for the judgement calls that come after.
  • Build and improve the team’s AI-driven processes and workflows, so the whole search team gets faster and more consistent, not just this one account.
  • Partner with the Executive Director of Search on identifying account growth opportunities and supporting new business pitches.
IPAR+E in this role

IPAR+E is the operating standard, the common language for how we work at AIP. It holds across every role and holds whatever changes around it, a shared standard that connects how we add value as an organisation all the way down to every role. Every role carries responsibility for applying it.

Intelligence: pulls together keyword research, site audits, competitor analysis and account performance data into a clear read of where each client’s SEO and GEO opportunity sits.

Prediction: watches algorithm updates, AI Overviews and generative search, and emerging platforms, from TikTok to YouTube and Pinterest, early enough to adjust client strategy ahead of the curve.

Action: turns strategy into delivery across technical, content and link acquisition, and keeps junior team members’ work on track through review and feedback.

Review: reports on performance on a regular cadence, tracks what’s actually moving the needle, and feeds the lessons back into strategy for the account and the wider team.

Client Engagement: is the senior, trusted voice on a portfolio of accounts, backing recommendations with data and keeping clients confident even when priorities shift.

Skills and experience

  • Proven track record of planning and executing successful SEO and GEO campaigns across a range of industries.
  • Strong knowledge across all three SEO pillars: technical SEO, content strategy and authority building, plus a working understanding of generative engine optimisation.
  • Comfortable using AI across research, audits and reporting, with a sharp eye for where its output needs correcting.
  • Experience building or improving AI-driven workflows across a team, not just for personal productivity.
  • Understanding of how organic and digital media (paid) strategies work together, and confidence advising on both.
  • Experience using industry-standard tools such as Google Analytics, Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs and Screaming Frog.
  • Confident communicating with clients and presenting strategic recommendations backed by data.
  • A collaborative mindset and experience working with cross-functional teams including Content, PR, Social and Digital Media.
  • Excellent analytical skills, able to derive insights and take action from data.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Success looks like

  • Every account in the portfolio has a clear SEO and GEO strategy spanning technical, content and links, and is hitting its performance targets.
  • Clients see AIP call the next shift in Search before it lands, not react to it once it has.
  • Organic and digital media strategies are planned together for each account, not written up as two separate documents.
  • Clients trust this role’s recommendations and act on them quickly, because they’re backed by data and delivered with confidence.
  • The team’s AI processes are faster and more consistent because this role built them, not just used them.
  • New business pitches are stronger because this role brings account growth thinking and SEO and GEO expertise to them.

Possiblist behaviours
These describe how we do the work, the attitude and approach we expect from everyone, whatever their job.
Be bold and unapologetic. We never win by pretending to be something we're not.
Be the one who makes it happen. And own it. We'll back you up.
Have a point of view, and say it like you mean it. Remember YOU are the expert. So get your point across directly.
Be always open. Closing yourself off is the opposite of Possiblism.
Win by working together. Our superpower is each other.
Grow in all directions. 1% better every day, in every way, for our clients, for the agency, for yourself.
