We accomplish this by supporting all school sectors with high-quality syllabuses, assessment (including managing the HSC and NAPLAN), teaching standards (e.g., accrediting teachers) and school environments (including setting and monitoring school standards).

NESA is a unique organisation in NSW (of around 740FTE staff) with significant state-wide impact, visit our website to learn more about the important work we do.

About the role

As a Senior Professional Conduct Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity, quality and professionalism of the teaching profession in NSW. Working within NESA's Teacher Policy and Professional Conduct team, you will assess complex matters relating to teacher suitability and professional conduct, helping ensure that students across NSW are supported by a trusted and high-quality teaching workforce.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced education professional to apply their knowledge of teaching standards, accreditation and regulatory frameworks in a strategic and influential role. You will work on complex and sensitive matters, provide expert advice to senior leaders, and contribute to policies and decisions that support confidence in the education system.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing and analysing matters relating to teacher professional conduct and suitability to teach.
  • Providing expert advice on teacher accreditation, professional conduct and regulatory matters.
  • Preparing high-quality briefings, correspondence and recommendations for senior decision-makers.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of policy, procedures and strategic initiatives.
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships with employers, unions, legal representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Reviewing legislation, policy and emerging issues to support effective regulation of the teaching profession.
  • Managing complex and sensitive matters within competing priorities and timeframes.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience applying educational, teacher accreditation or regulatory frameworks to assess complex matters and provide sound recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of the teaching profession and the factors that support quality teaching and student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, strategic advice on sensitive issues and communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Experience building productive relationships and influencing stakeholders with differing perspectives.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement and deliver high-quality outcomes in a complex environment.
  • Expert understanding and knowledge of teacher accreditation and/or experience in government regulation.

  • Tertiary qualifications in education.

Note: A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance for paid employment is required before commencing in this role. It is not required at the application stage. The cost of the WWCC clearance is the responsibility of the successful applicant.
