The Senior Proposal Content Writer's responsibilities include the creation and editing of proposal text to secure new business by either working with subject matter experts to create new, descriptive product and/or service-specific narratives and/or customizing existing narrative that answers Request for Proposals (RFP) requirements. They design winning solution strategies and drive revenue growth. The Content Writer must juggle multiple proposals and deadlines. Daily activities may include strategy calls to discuss a new RFP or independent work to finalize an RFP response. This position also includes key responsibilities for reposing content to utilize for multiple purposes including creating product toolkits, response to sales rubrics, and state submission requirements.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as subject-matter expert on selected programs for the RFP team, by obtaining all information needed for responding to RFXs and rubrics, monitoring, researching, and recording updates/changes to the programs, and creating narrative responses to reflect changes to content, selling points, competition, and pricing models.
  2. Review the program and services-related criteria in RFPs, bids, and rubrics to identify potential HMH solutions, evaluate the extent to which HMH solutions meet the criteria, and assess the opportunity for new business.
  3. Contribute to strategic decision-making and positioning using SFDC data, customer details, customer needs and preferences, and information-gathering on factors such as budget, history, weighted items, etc.; participate in discussion calls; collaborate with sales teams to position solutions most advantageously.
  4. Draft responses to the content criteria in RFPs, bids, and rubrics; conduct independent research to draft original narrative and keep existing content current and correct, collaborate with Product Management & Strategy teams to secure additional information when required.
  5. Support content accuracy of proposal narrative and associated tables, charts, and graphics; review and copy edit narrative.
  6. Engage with Director or Manager of Content to align new content/tagging to correct nomenclature; contribute insight into effective utilization of platform to inform improvements.
  7. Participate in ongoing training to keep abreast of current trends in education, updates to programs and services, and HMH initiatives and positioning.

 

What You Will Need to be Successful:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Experience writing descriptive proposal responses to RFPs issued by school districts.
  • Experience writing content summaries in a tailored, compelling, and persuasive manner.
  • Minimum of five years of experience teaching core curriculum (ELA, mathematics, science, or social studies) in the K–12 public school environment. Experience must be in-person, not virtual.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail/consistency.
  • Ability to work effectively with subject-matter experts and participants from across the company. Ability to work independently and be successful in a virtual work environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite.

 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience teaching multiple subjects.
  • Knowledge of curricula, educational theory and trends, national and state standards, proposal automation systems, Chicago Manual of Style, and devices used in educational environments.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing) for 4+ hours.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other productivity machinery, such as online platforms, printers, and applications.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues predominantly via conference calls and online meetings.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
